Horrorsnotdead introduced me to this great promo for Cartoon Networks showing of the Goosebumps series. I'm a huge fan of this show and the Grindhouse style is wonderful.

Aliens vs Predator 2 looks like a bloody good time!

This trailer must be from one of the comic cons. It has a lot of gore and few choice words. Definitely red band. Does this mean that AvP 2 is headed for an R rating?

Adult Swim has a killer new game where you collect orphans off the Victorian England street to eat later.

Red Band Trailer and Seriously Awesome Clip from 30 Days of Night

I just had my mind blown by the new Red Band (more gruesome) trailer and clip from 30 Days of Night that Horror's Not Dead has up on their site!

Horror's Not Dead believes that people aren't giving the movie the props it deserves so I have to tell you - I am more excited about this movie than any other this fall!

Mike Carey's The Devil You Know hits American Book Shelves

We finally get killer comic writer Mike Carey's (Lucifer, Hellblazer, etc) debut novel, The Devil You Know in the US this week.

According to the back of the book blurb,

Felix Castor used to cast out demons for a living, and London was his stamping ground. But in a time when the supernatural realm is in upheaval and spilling over in the mundane world of the living, his skills are in renewed demand. With old debts to pay, Castor is left with no choice but to accept one final, well-paying assignment; a seemingly simple exorcism.

Movie Review - Night of the Werewolf (1980)

I've heard a lot about Paul Naschy’s werewolf movies over the years, but never had a chance to see one until Deimos Entertainment released Night of the Werewolf on DVD earlier this year. Since I was a little kid I have had a soft spot for Gothic horror, stemming from the classic Universal monster movies and a healthy dose of Gothic fiction. Night of the Werewolf fits right into that spot.

The movie starts in the 1600's, with the death of Countess Bathory and her werewolf henchman, Count Waldemar Daninsky and then jumps forward to a more modern time where three women archaeologists in search of Bathory's tomb stumble across a newly resurrected Daninsky.

Love, death, and Gothic castles abound as the werewolf terrorizes the countryside, Bathory is resurrected from the dead, and wolf-man vs. vampire action ensues.

The pacing is slow and the cinematography is gorgeous. You can tell here that Naschy is trying for something nostalgic and more artful than most monster movies of the 80's. Comparisons to Universal and Hammer movies would be more accurate. The Gothic atmosphere pulls you in and you forgive the small imperfections of slow-motion jumps that go no where or faulty storytelling because the tone of the movie makes you feel that they were all part of an overall experience.

If your a fan of the classics and the Hammer movies, Night of the Werewolf is one for your collection. I was thoroughly entertained.

Deimos Entertainment also has provided a wonderful interactive menu and extras like production stills and a fun intro by Naschy himself who tells you to turn out the lights and get ready for Gothic frights.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Trailer

This trailer looks amazing! Look for the co-op play showcased at the end. I have been playing the Resident Evil IV port on the WII and loving it. The controls put you further into the game than any other Resident Evil experience I have had. Umbrella Chronicles looks even better.

Masters of Horror Season One Limited Edition Mausoleum Set

This Limited Edition Mausoleum DVD Set looks amazing. Too bad I only really enjoyed about half these films and the ones I really liked (Incident On and Off a Mountain Road, Dreams in the Witch House, and Cigarette Burns) can be bought very cheaply used.

Although, according to TV Shows on DVD,

Jekyll is a crazy ride!

I caught the first two episodes of BBC ONE's new postmodern take on Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jekyll online yesterday and I have to say that I was highly impressed.

Set in modern London, Jekyll is not a adaptation of the novel, but a strange continuation, tying the new Dr. Jekyll to Stephenson's cursed scientist.

James Nesbitt plays both Jekyll and Hyde, switching back and forth with little make-up. Nesbitt relies on facial expression, body movements, voice, and a brilliant grasp on the primal attitude of the character.

Jekyll juggles a complex plot and personal relationships well, taking the time to show the horror that a man with the power and the lack of control to be a monster can do at the same time we root for him against the people that want to control and support his curse.

I'll be watching the whole six episode miniseries and if you can find it online (try a torrent site), you should check it out as well.

I need some Stuff

EegahInc over at The B-Movie Catechism corrects me without knowing it.

I was discussing Larry Cohen 1985 movie, The Stuff a few nights ago and I described the origin of the killer yogurt as the moon. After reading EegahInc's review I see that The Stuff comes from a quarry (much like the creature that scared a 9 year old boy to crying and scarred him for life from jello creatures, Son of the Blob).

I moved The Stuff up on my netflix quarry, so expect a review in the near future.

Supernatural Origins - Preview

The CW has a five page preview to the upcoming prequel comic to Supernatural called Origins. It's being put out by Wildstorm and its written by comic guru Geoff Johns with artist Phil Hester (Green Arrow).

The preview looks great and since the show is wonderful I'll be picking up the TPB.

Rob Zombie's Halloween Trailer

My Craptastic Studies colleagues might give me flack over saying this, but I think Rob Zombie's Halloween looks awesome.

Yes, the original is the best thing since butcher knifed bread and Donald Pleasence saying "evil" over and over again will be missed, But, if the trailer is any indication, the remake is going to be killer!
